As a Cypress Realtor (and for surrounding areas), I constantly meet families desiring to move into the neighborhood to have the opportunity of sending their children to the prestigious, Oxford Academy. Located in Cypress, California, the school is considered number one in Orange County, as it holds a 100% graduation rate and 100% college-going rate. With such rankings, honestly it is of no surprise that the school is highly sought after by families and those planning on having children one day in the future. Such parental aspirations is one reason why the Cypress real estate market can withstand even the toughest and slowest markets.
As you may have read in my previous blog on West Garden Grove’s high ranked schools, home buyers are willing to pay more for access to a great school system. Accordingly, homes within desired school boundaries, as those in West Garden Grove and Cypress, are proven to have an additional layer of protection on their property value from market fluctuations. And here, those within Oxford Academy’s borders prove nothing less.
Besides the variety of clubs and sports the school offers, it further has the resources and ability to guide its students to such career paths as those in biomedical, business, computer science, and engineering. Additionally, Oxford Academy stands significantly above the average for California high schools based on its high test performance and high AP course participation. In fact, the school’s standardized test performance is in the top 1% of California high schools.
Cypress Realtor Shares Admission Requirement to Oxford Academy
Oxford Academy Entrance Requirements
The entrance process to Oxford Academy is rigorous and limited to students entering 7th, 8th, and/or 9th grade; but once accepted, the opportunities are abundant. To attend Oxford Academy, the student must reside with their parent/guardian within the Anaheim Union High School boundaries and pass the application and examination process.
To qualify for entrance, the student must have earned 3’s and 4’s on a 4 point scale, 4’s and 5’s on a 5 point scale, or A’s and B’s as their final grades in all core academic subjects (language arts, math, science, and history). Furthermore, any grades lower than a C, in any subject, is grounds for disqualification. Moreover, the student must have a satisfactory or above mark in citizenship, effort, and attendance, as well as, they must score at least the “meet standards” in English, Language Arts, and Mathematics on the SBAC report or a national standardized test. Lastly, 7th and 8th graders must currently be enrolled in Pre-Algebra/Math 1 and Algebra/Math 2 respectively.
Oxford Academy Entrance Exam
Once admission requirements are met, students are invited to take Oxford Academy’s, four hour, entrance exam. The exam includes four sections comprised of content from the California Standards of appropriate grade levels: two multiple choice sections ((1) Language Arts and (2) Mathematics), one mathematics short answer section, and a written essay portion. Upon completion of the exam and result publication, the school will select the top 25 students who scored the highest from EACH of the eight junior high attendance areas, allotting around 200 openings for each of the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade levels.
